Fantastic Folk Fest 2012

Why hello there,

I have been coyly standing on the dock, peeking my nose around this blog, sometimes dipping a toe in, but today is the day I am going to take the plunge and write my first  post. I have been spending the past few months at *honest, here in the heart of Winnipeg watching the city pulse and circulate through portage and main below my desk. So how cool is this place to work? SO cool.

I was reminded just how awesome my job is this whole weekend at Folk Fest, where I met my co-workers on the *honest tarp in front of the main stage. From the show we sauntered over to the beer tents while the sun set over the prairie skyline behind us.

Honest, (and more specifically Erin) did the design for Folk Fest this year, and so they hooked the whole office up with passes and loot. To put a cherry on top of the whole thing Callum and Sherril gave the whole office both Thursday and Friday to spend in the sun catching tunes.

At our production meeting this morning we exchanged our adventures at the Fest. Between free hugs, trips to the beer gardens, catching some awesome tunes and soaking up the sun between tree branches fun was had by all. The musical highlight for me was probably the Green Ash workshop, with Bahamas, The Barr Brothers, The Head and The Heart and Blitzen Trapper. My boyfriend being a touring musician himself told me that bands from the US don't do "jamming workshops" at their festivals. On this stage where 50% of the musicians had never experienced a live jam, we watched magic happen.

Unlike the rest of the *honest crew here, I spent the weekend in the festival campground.     The 5 day party, was wild as always, although entering my late twenties, I am slightly embarrassed to admit I was tucked away in bed, every night just before midnight, with the drum circles and fireworks serving as lullabies. But you will be glad to know that Pope's Hill is just as full of fire dancers, that the Castle Boy's put on an epic "human sacrifice" ritual at the 2 story Mayan temple, and the showers still feel like washing yourself in a slurpee.

So here we are, back to work Monday, all a little tuckered out and sun kissed and we all agreed that the fest was a success.
